Christmas wreaths and gifts
November 20, 2014
I love Christmas. I love the crisp, coldness of the Winter months, the warmth of an open fire and the smell of fresh fir...
Christmas wreaths adorn many front doors throughout December. They provide a warm, seasonal welcome to visitors and are very much part of an age-old Christmas tradition of celebration, love, giving, and family gatherings.
The shape and composition of wreaths also carry meaning. the circle of foliage has no beginning and no end - this represents eternity; ever-lasting faith maybe or the circle of life? The evergreen materials used in the wreath symbolise strength to get through the Winter months, the prickly nature of Holly provides a natural defence whilst Ivy is a sign of friendship and affection. Some wreaths contain moss which symbolises charity. The additional adornments: dried oranges, lemons, cinnamon, ribbons...provide unique and personal touches. It is thought that at one time the decoration of wreaths may have been used to identify households.
This year, I've decided to teach wreath-making classes for small groups. These combine fun, sociable Christmassy afternoons / evenings with the delights of learning a new skill and crafting your own unique festive beauty to adorn your front door. Details of some of these classes can be found on Tin Can Floral's Facebook page. To reserve your place call me on 07722 383 601 or email me.
Christmas is a busy time as a florist. As well as making Christmas wreaths, dressing staircases and mantlepieces with fir garlands, and fulfilling local orders, I am also crafting some beautiful table centrepieces, decorations and gifts for the festive season; most of which I'll be taking to the amazing Christmas at the Orangery gift fayre. This is the first year I have attended and looking at the array of wonderful stallholders, I shall be in very good company. I am preparing for a number of other smaller but equally beautiful fayres, such as Old Down Manor's Christmas Fair a beautiful venue with a lovely Children's play area / animal park and fabulous food!
I hope to see you at one of the fayres I'm at over the Christmas period but if you can't make it and you'd like to place an order - or make a wreath! - then please do contact me on 07722 383 601.
